In 2003 I created more knights and fantasy creatures. I worked in higher image resolutions and put more time into my artwork in order to render more and finer detail. Some of my most elaborate fantasy characters were painted that year.

Until then I had done a lot of clean rendering of light and shadow. One thing that was new to me in that time was the use of texture in order to create a more painterly look. I experimented with that quite a lot at the end of 2003. I created textures by scanning watercolor and acrylic paintings and I used structured brushes to break up the clean look of standard digital brushes. In combination with more sketchy strokes I was able to loosen up the look of my paintings quite a bit.
