2007 started completely abstract. I remember that in that time I used painting mainly to relax from work. I had no energy to work out figures and render representational detail. I just wanted to paint and compose light and colors.

My big project of the year was 'Trapped!' for which I chose a classic approach. I did a lot of conceptual drawings and preliminary planning for this painting. It turned out to be an accomplished artwork but I remember that during that time I was unhappy with the result because it lacked a lot of the qualities that I had become used to in my abstract paintings.

I clearly remember that the rest of the year became a contant struggle for me between abstract and representational painting. I also started with digital sculpting in 2007 which resulted in a lot of highly representational 3D models. Looking back at it now, it seems to me that I performed sort of a countermovement in my paintings by concentrating more on simplicity and abstraction.
