I returned to complete abstraction at the beginning of 2008.

'Well of Darkness' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Magma Flower' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Moss' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Reef Fish' - 2008 - Photoshop

I painted only a few representational artworks in 2008.

'Sunshine Guard' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Scrat Portrait' - 2008 - Photoshop

During that time I was intensively working on 'Saving the Alien Girl' which was composed of digital sculptings I did in ZBrush. Painting once more had to play the counterpart to my representational 3D models and I mainly used it to relax. However, I introduced 'The Wanderer' into some of my paintings in order to turn them into landscapes.

'Untitled' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Herbstspaziergang' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Red Wood' - 2008 - Photoshop

Towards the end of 2008 I felt a growing dissatisfaction with pure abstraction. I tried to turn my abstract paintings into at least half abstract scenes.

'Enchanted Land' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Birchwood' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Underground Palace' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Jungle Temple' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Dwarf Castle' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Ivory Tower' - 2008 - Photoshop

'Abstract Journey' - 2008 - Photoshop

My last two paintings of 2008 began as abstract paintings and turned into representational scenes during the painting process. With that approach I reached a point that satisfied both my need for relaxation during painting as well as my wish to create scenes that tell a story in the representational world.

'Into the Light' - 2008 - Photoshop

'White Castle' - 2008 - Photoshop

That completes my retrospective and I hope it was interesting for you to follow. Having sorted and revisited my old artwork and having clarified certain developments to myself, I now feel better prepared for what lies ahead. For that I promise you: the Journey has just began!
