In 2005 I was quite active again. The year started with a bigger painting which shows characters from norse mythology. The squirrel Ratatoesk lives on the world tree Yggdrasil and delivers the insults between the dragon Nidhogre, who gnaws on the world tree's roots, and the eagle, who lives in the crown of Yggdrasil.

A lot of my following artwork was fantasy themed, too. I was experimenting with a more loose approach to painting. My two Alladin paintings show the process of breaking up forms and working with more atmosphere.

On the other hand I tried to find a way to quickly develop pictoral concepts and compositions before much time was invested in rendering. The following page shows some of the thumbnail sketches I did in 2005.

My next bigger project was 'Rise of the Firelord'. This character had lurked through my mind for years (you can also find him on the 2003 page) and I finally decided to create an iconic artwork about his birth. At that time, he was not yet part of the 'Wormworld Saga'.

Many of my paintings of 2005 were based on characters and fantasy stories.

In 2005 I again contributed to a wide range of different themes in the forums. Of course 'Pirates' and 'Jedi' were among them.

A new thing that occured in 2005 was, that I started to publish some of my abstract paintings. These were by far not my first abstract paintings but it was the first time I had the feeling that I could show them to the public. In these paintings you can find some of the visual approaches I also had used in some of my representational paintings troughout 2005.
